Bambu Lab AMS 2 Pro Upgrade Kit 1 vs Upgrade Kit 2: Which One Do You Need?

Published August 29, 2026

Researched guide

Upgrade Kit 1 and Upgrade Kit 2 are accessory bundles for connecting the AMS 2 Pro to an X1 or P1 printer. Choose Upgrade Kit 1 if you are connecting only ONE AMS unit (it includes a single-slot Filament Buffer). Choose Upgrade Kit 2 if you plan to connect TWO to FOUR AMS units (it swaps the Filament Buffer for a 4-port AMS Hub). Last checked October 25, 2026.

How this guide was made

If you own a Bambu Lab P1S, P1P, X1C, or X1 and buy a standalone AMS 2 Pro, Bambu Lab offers two accessory bundles: Upgrade Kit 1 and Upgrade Kit 2. Here is the exact difference between the two kits based on Bambu Lab’s P1S installation wiki and UK store listings as of October 25, 2026.

Do H2D, H2S, or P2S owners need Upgrade Kit 1 or 2?

No. Do not buy Upgrade Kit 1 or Upgrade Kit 2 if you own an H2D, H2S, or P2S:

  • H2D and H2S: Have a built-in filament buffer and can power one AMS 2 Pro directly. If you connect 3 or more AMS units to an H2D/H2S, you only need a standalone Bambu 4-in-1 PTFE Adapter.
  • P2S: Uses a dedicated P2S Filament Buffer (sold separately for standalone P2S machines), not the X1/P1 buffer found in Upgrade Kit 1.
  • A1 Series: Requires the A1 dedicated AMS Hub. Bambu Lab warns that using the X1/P1 Filament Buffer or AMS Hub on an A-series printer can damage the unit and void your warranty.

Alternative to Upgrade Kit 2: The 4-in-1 PTFE Adapter method

In Bambu Lab’s AMS 2 Pro Part Introduction and Connection Guide, Bambu notes that X1/P1 owners connecting multiple AMS units have two methods:

  1. Method 1 — AMS Hub (Upgrade Kit 2): Recommended by Bambu for the most stable multi-AMS filament switching.
  2. Method 2 — Filament Buffer + 4-in-1 PTFE Adapter: Places a 4-in-1 PTFE Tube Adapter between the multiple AMS units and a single Filament Buffer (never reverse the order—the buffer must always sit between the printer and the adapter).
